How can I find service records from the Vietnam war for free?

A relative of mine was with the navy for two years. I was hoping to find service records, pictures or anything for that matter that could prove my uncle served.
He once told me that the draft/recruitment/whatever office was in Coney Island (brooklyn,NY). I think he was born in 1951.

Here is a list of people that can request a copy of his DD214 (discharge papers):
A military veteran, or
Next of kin of a deceased, former member of the military. The next of kin can be any of the following:
Surviving spouse that has not remarried
Father
Mother
Son
Daughter
Sister
Brother
